The story takes place in Paris during the Occupation. As a group of friends gathers to share a meal, two German officers are shot nearby. In retaliation, a commander demands that two of the guests be handed over in exchange for the others’ freedom. This gripping, closed-door drama confronts the characters with an impossible choice and, through their exchanges, reveals their fears, convictions, flaws, and humanity. How far can one go to save one’s own life? What remains of our values when everything is turned upside down?
