EXPOSITION “MATIÈRES ET MOUVEMENTS”
"Mati%E8res et Mouvements" Exhibition: Residents of the Le Comtal residential care facility showcase their mosaics in Martres-Tolosane. Thirteen artists, thirteen perspectives on matter in motion.
The Le Comtal residential care facility is presenting a group exhibition featuring mosaic works created throughout the year by residents of the Mosaic Workshop. Thirteen artists are each exhibiting at least one piece.
At the workshop, we began working with mosaics using different materials—terracotta, wood, and handcrafted glass—and learning how to create more three-dimensional compositions. The idea was to create a series of works, letting the materials guide our hands. But our goal is to create pieces that can be exhibited outside the school.
The idea is set in motion: each person sketches the project they wish to create, with the guideline being “movement within the material.” The strokes are tentative and hesitant on the blank sheet of paper, but lines and colors begin to emerge as the days go by.
The next phase involves choosing materials, knowing that they may change during the creative process, allowing for great freedom of expression. Step by step, mastery of cutting the tesserae is acquired, the movements become more precise, and emotions emerge.
The mosaic is born, gently, slowly. It is a language that each person makes their own.
